My Story
In 1976, I completed degrees at Spokane Falls Community College in both advertising and graphic design, with a keen interest in photography and process cameras. I spent the next nine years in creative, design, and technical capacities with marketing and printing companies; first in the Seattle area and then Spokane. In 1985, I launched my own design firm, Bassett & Brush, in the basement of our home and was my professional focus, until I retired. It’s been a very rewarding career, spanning almost 40 years, and I’ve been fortunate to have worked on projects for clients such as Disney, National Geographic, Target, Best Buy, and hundreds more. Along the way, my weekends were spent hunting with my family, but always with a camera...
My Art
I’m now retired (in the loosest sense of the word) and able to indulge my artistic roots by pursuing the fine arts, with an initial focus on fine art photography. I especially love panoramic photographs, which intrigue me. But, I’ve also returned to working in pencil, creating drawings to incorporate on the matting of my photographs. Realizing that the framing of artwork is as much a part of the art itself, I wanted to create that aspect of the finished piece as well, so I trained into woodcrafting and now offer my own custom, hardwood frames for many of my pieces. My handcrafted, custom hardwood framed prints incorporate all my skill areas: I am the photographer, pencil artist, woodcrafter, glass cutter, and framer. Each piece is a unique work of art in its own right, signed and numbered by myself.
Finally, somewhere on the horizon, when my journey arrives at that point, I plan to return to watercolors.
I hope you enjoy my art…
